End of my Magellan Stint?

November 20, 2007

Ok. Is it? This got me thinking.

whoami here?

I am currently the IT Manager for the company (or am i?). Been here since 17 October 2005, more than 2years. Is that enough time to call it quits? Have i seen all possible scenario in the Call Center Tech scene?

I started as the Systems Administrator (System or Systems?) with the initial task of studying the Touchstar Predictive Dialer System. Actually, it is the blended (inbound and outbound capable) solution that we have. I was the understudy of their current Admin.

What have I done here?

Touchstar Dialer System. VPN. Squid. SQL 2000. Windows 2003 Active Directory. DNS Servers. Linux firewalls and gateways. Excel-based reports. Everything you can imagine!

This has been bugging me for some time now. Tasks have been repetitive. I reinvented myself twice already just to lose this  thought. I have been successful twice. Would i still be successful for the third time? Sigh.

On Missing People

November 20, 2007

I miss old friends. Kristian, Red, Cherrie, Nerissa, Beth, Enrico (Franco).  I guess it is all but natural to miss old people. They are your ‘comfort zone’ when you are down. Remembering happy days, fun days, the memories. I guess life just moves on. People get older, part ways, move on.

The hardest part is making new people good friends, that later on in life will become old friends. Old friends means being friends for so long.

I miss you guys. Inom naman tayo minsan! Hahahaha.

Changing Timezone and Updating the Time

November 17, 2007
  1. Log in as root
  2. To check the current time use the ‘date’ command.
  3. Go to the directory /usr/share/zoneinfo. It will give you a list of all available time zones. Choose the most appropriate for your area.
  4. I usually like backups, so backup the previous timezone configuration by copying it to a different location, `mv /etc/localtime /etc/localtime-backup`.
  5. Create a symbolic link from the appropiate timezone to /etc/localtime. Example: `ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Amsterdam /etc/localtime`.
  6. If you have the utility rdate, update the current system time by executing `/usr/bin/rdate -s time.nist.gov`.
  7. Set the ZONE entry in the file /etc/sysconfig/clock file (e.g. “America/Los_Angeles”)
  8. Set the hardware clock by executing: ` /sbin/hwclock –systohc`

The Secret of Life

November 17, 2007

The secret of life is not just to live but to have something worthwhile to live for. We may live once, but if we live right, one lifetime is enough.

Yehey!

Salamat

November 14, 2007

For the person who made me realize how wonderful a smile could be.

(Lyrics could be wrong… but hopefully the thought counts) 😛

Salamat, salamat

Salamat, salamat

A Cleansing Ritual

November 13, 2007

Over the weekend, I got the chance to do some laundry. Got all my clothes that I have not used for some time, sorted them to wearables and non wearables. A yellow shirt from my college days, a yellow polo during my previous company (the one an old officemate wanted as a gift), my favorite white checkered polo I love wearing during my Tailoring class (being ironic), etc.

It was fun seeing them again. Memories flooded me. The good times, the old times. But sometimes we have to let go of some things, things that should no longer be a part of our future.

Good bye. Mwuah! I loved you.
